BLOG #1 - Tankus The Henge

TANKUS ARE BACK!

We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Tankus the Henge back to Strings this yeaR. DON'T MISS OUT on Friday the 25th of November.

With TTH being regular performers at Strings and always delivering a mesmerising show, we know this one will be a sell-out.

If you haven’t already discovered this fantastic band, read on to see why you need to get a ticket early and avoid missing out on what has the potential to be one of your 2022 highlights.

A bit about the band…

Tankus the Henge are a cult British band based in London, and are known for their wild showmanship, musical dexterity, and a relentless touring schedule. Based initially around the song writing of Jaz Delorean, the band has undergone a continuous evolution to develop an eclectic and unique style of music which they term "Gonzo Rock 'n' Roll".

Tankus take inspiration from bands around in the British invasion of the 60’s, as well as artists such as Tom Waits, Blur, Randy Newman and Queens Of The Stone Age. Their lyrics are influenced by the ‘Beat Generation’ and ‘Gonzo journalism’, both from 20th Century American Literature. Frontman Jaz Delorean also finds lyric inspiration in stories from his families heritage, working on touring funfairs and circus’ around the UK in the 50’s and 60’s. Combining all of this influence together, and it’s clear to see why Tankus the Henge defy categorisation. Their hair-raising show, like no other, must be seen and heard to be believed. Hence why they’ve been described as “Like a psychedelic, rock n roll octopus – only with four more legs.”

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY...

“..I love that. It reminds me of a mixture of early Kinks, Squeeze and a bit of Blur mashed in. His voice is his own, …so great. I love it.”

Dave Davies – The Kinks

“What do they know that we do not know? And most importantly, how could we have lived without them for so long?”

Rolling Stone France

“….a virtual carnival of sound that’s high on energy and deep on soul. With copious helpings of R&B blues, funk, disco, Django, a dose of Dexy’s, a drop of Ray Davies and a pinch of Madness emerging throughout the eleven tracks – it’s an exciting mélange of sound.”

Simon Wells - The Guardian.

Our Say…

“Tankus are always a fan favourite on the Isle of Wight, and every time they’ve played here at Strings they’ve pushed the boundaries and delivered an electric performance in every song. People often speak of past Tankus shows here, and how they’re looking forward to the next one. Infact, inbetween the anticipated returns, I’m constantly getting fans reaching out and asking me when they’re going to be playing next. It’s great to see, and great to know that the show will sell-out, bringing together lots of like-minded Islanders that will all enjoy a memorable evening at their local independent venue.”

CLAYDON CONNOR - STRings

Fun Fact!

Tankus The Henge proved they're one of most hardworking bands around by being the first British band to tour in the EU since Brexit and were also the first during the Covid-19 Pandemic!

What are you waiting for?

"Their funk-fuelled repertoire is wildly eclectic, ranging from New Orleans inspired swing to heavy rock riffs, and since their beginnings in the ratty alleyways of London’s Soho, the band has evolved into a wild groove machine."

If that's not enough to intrigue you, I don't know what is... Buy the ticket, take the ride.
