Hugo Chegwin is a British actor, writer, composer, and producer known for his versatility across both television and music. He first rose to prominence as DJ Beats in the BAFTA-winning BBC Three mockumentary People Just Do Nothing, a cult comedy he co-created with long-time friends Allan Mustafa, Steve Stamp, and Asim Chaudhry. The series, which began life as a set of pirate-radio-inspired YouTube sketches, ran for five acclaimed seasons from 2014 to 2018 and was followed by the feature film People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan in 2021.
Chegwin has continued to expand his acting career with standout roles in television comedies such as The Curse, Sneakerhead, and Channel 4’s Peacock. He also co-hosts the popular podcast Chattin’ Shit with Allan Mustafa, where the pair offer candid, comedic conversations with a range of guests. Alongside his on-screen success, Chegwin has built an impressive career in music as an accomplished songwriter and producer. He has written for major international artists including Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith, and Mary J. Blige. His work on Sandé’s hit single “Next to Me” earned him two prestigious Ivor Novello Awards, firmly establishing his reputation as a gifted composer and musician.
